Spring into Summer

31 Mar

Spring has definitely arrived.
Who would have thought we’d be dusting off our sunglasses and gladiator sandals in March?
I thought my nails should match the wonderful weather we’ve been having so I binned the false nails and opted for a splash of colour.
My shade of choice was Miners Mango Tango.

The orange/coral shade instantly brightened things up.
I own more shades like this than any other and this is definitely up there with my favourites.
The brush provided easy application and each coat (I applied two) dried within five minutes – perfect for girls on the go!

This shade is one of three newbies Miners have added to its Spring/Summer nail varnish collection.
Joining old favourites Marshmellow (baby pink) and Jezebel (hot pink) is Keeping’ it Teal (aqua) and Sunny Side Up (yellow).
All cost a bargain £2.99 too!
I think I’ll be working my way through these in the next few weeks!

A new generation or a chip off the old block?

Does the latest salon craze have it nailed?
There is nothing worse than chipped nail varnish.
It would make even Victoria Beckham look unkept and lazy.
As a nail varnish addict I know all too well how easy it is to get the chipped chic look.

So when I heard my local salon was offering GELeration nails and eyelash extensions for £30 I jumped at the chance.

GELeration by Jessica promises a two-week chip free manicure.
The soak off varnish dries instantly with a high gloss finish.
Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it?

Unfortunately it is.
I managed eight chip-free days, which is good going but it’s not two weeks is it?

I chose a coral shade as it is a colour I wear on a regular basis and wasn’t too “out there” to be stuck with for a few weeks (give or take).

I had a basic manicure at the same time and the whole procedure took about an hour.
First a base coat was applied and cured under a UV lamp.
Then two coats of GELeration varnish was applied with a couple of minutes under the lamp after each application.
After a top coat and a further minute under the lamp I was ready to go.

At first I couldn’t get used to the fact it was dry so quickly and dreaded smudging it as I put my coat my coat.
I shouldn’t have worried, it certainly was dry & the high gloss shine was fantastic.
It was great being able to wash up, clean, go about day to day activities with chip free nails.

But all good things come to an end and I shall spend tonight with my hands soaked in acetone (99p from B&M).
If I went to the salon they would charge me £6.50 to get it soaked off – no thanks!

Being as thrifty as ever, I ventured over to eBay and found some UV soak off varnish and a base/top coat for around £3 altogether and free shipping from Hong Kong.

I already own a UV lamp (was 99p on eBay, also from Hong Kong) so I can’t wait to give it a go myself and get prolonged perfect polishes for next to nothing!

I’ll obviously let you know how I get on but postage can take up to two weeks (can’t have everything!)

Have you tried GELeration? Let me know what you thought.
